Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been won on hard courts

A revitalized the Russian player won his maiden title for 882 days with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

Medvedev, a former number one, has endured a challenging year, winning just one win at the major tournaments and suffering a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

His unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serving in particular - caused him falling of the top ten and finally parting ways with long-time coach Cervara.

Presently training with his coach and Goetzke, he has gradually improved in the last few weeks - climaxing in a closely contested competitive triumph over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This represents his first trophy since the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard surface since March of that year.

Success also means he has achieved twenty-one victories at 21 various tournaments.

"For the first time I'm at a event with my children together, so to win a title is especially meaningful," said world number 14 Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I won when my child my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his last six title deciders, including in that event earlier this year.

The player's retrieving strategy and regular outbursts on the tennis court had led observers to wonder if his skill to play at the highest level was over.

Yet the athlete has made changes in the past month, making an effort to come to the net and perform positively, reinforced by an enhanced serving game.

Medvedev came back from a break down in the opening set against the difficult Frenchman, securing 4 of the final five points to gain the advantage.

The pair exchanged break points in the middle set before the Frenchman, bidding for his first professional championship, took control to force a decider.

The opponent defended four initial chances in a tight third set before the Russian broke to fifteen to close out the victory.

Suitably, the winner clinched victory with a point at the net, with his opponent unable to handle a return after a lengthy match.
